Don’t Monkey Around with the Monkey King

This might well be a fictional character in the Chinese epic novel of ‘Journey to the West’, but for some Chinese the Monkey King is taken to a totally different perspective.

In some regions of China and places of South East Asia, the Monkey King is venerated by some Chinese. Hence, the immortal king has been deified and thereby can grant wishes to whomsoever holds him in high respect. Below is a conceptualized depiction of the Monkey King as seen at Ling San Temple, Tuaran, Sabah.

You may laugh at the ridiculous mumpsimus, but I have learned in my journey through this mysterious world to have an open mind in everything. And that’s coming from one,  believe it or not, who is scientifically inclined. Never underestimate the power of persuasion.
